Company mission
3S Media is a modern-day publishing company offering print and electronic solutions for business communities.

It was formed as an expansion of Shorten Publications, with its 40 year track record of trade publication experience and excellence. Since then it has launched or acquired new publications in the business and technical fields, and branched into electronic community publishing.

3S Media has become one of the largest business-to-business publication houses in southern Africa. Its mission is to share information and opportunities across various platforms, offering businesses and professionals the leading edge to grow and develop their companies and industries.

There are currently 12 titles in the stable, serving the needs and range of sectors. Many of them are produced in partnership with professional institutions. 3S Media also publishes regional business guides and supplements. 

Awards
  • 2008 – Imiesa, Water&Sanitation Africa and Local Government Supplier magazines won the CESA award for publishing excellence. 
  • 2006, 2005, 2001 and 1999 – IMIESA won the Sappi PICA Award in the Civil Construction, Building and Infrastructural Development category.
  • 2004 –c RéSource won the Sappi PICA Award in the Electrical, Engineering and Waste Management category.
  • 2004 – SA Irrigation was awarded a Highly Commended in the Farming, Agricultural Produce and Equipment, Irrigation and Horticulture category of the Sappi PICA Awards.
  • 2004 – Transport World Africa was awarded a Highly Commended at the Sappi PICA Awards in the Other Specialist Titles category.
  • 2003 – Emergency Services SA won the Sappi PICA Award for best magazine in the Safety and Security category.
Journalism awards
  • 2005 – Elizabeth Shorten won the SAACE Excellence Award for Journalist of the Year.
  • 2004 – Elizabeth Shorten won a Mondi Award in the Industry category.
  • 2003 – Elizabeth Shorten won a Mondi award in the Industry category.
  • 2001 – Jaci Leitch won a Mondi Award in the Systems Coverage category.
  • 2000 – Jaci Leitch won a Mondi Award in the Specialised readership category.
BEE status
3S Media is proud to announce it has been rated a level two BEE contributor and received a procurement recognition level of 125%.

About the publisher
Elizabeth Shorten has a Master of Arts degree in English as well as many years of experience in journalism and publishing management. She started her career in London where she worked on newspapers such as The Daily Mail and The Times, and on magazines such as Woman’s Own and Working Woman. Elizabeth has managed Shorten Publications through its strongest period of growth and has founded 3S Media. Furthermore, she has twice been awarded the Mondi Award for journalism. Elizabeth is a board member of the Magazine Publishers Association of South Africa and served as chairperson of the Sappi PICA Awards committee for publishing excellence from 2004 to 2006.
